This film was done in 2015 and was released to the public in 2016,this film, this film won the people's choice awards at the barbados fim awards and is considered one of the best barbadian films and this film is still being talked about to this day.
When we think of the local movie scene, such names as Shakirah Bourne, Marcia and Dave Weekes and Alison Saunders-Franklyn easily comes to mind; movies such as ‘Hit for six’, Chrissy and ‘Pay day’ captures the essence of the Barbadian landscape in a manner which would make the Hollywood producers sit up and take a serious look at what is happening this side of the globe within the international movie arena.
Yet another Barbadian has made his mark with the latest Bajan Movie, this is a young man from the rural village of Sixmens in the parish of St. Peter. Stockton Miller is that young man and the movie is: ‘Day Break’ which premièred on Friday 22nd May at The Pier One Night Club on Cavans Lane in the city.
The story is centred around a young school boy who witnesses the killing of a known drug pusher from the neighbourhood but is torn between informing the local law officials and informing the brother of the murdered man who is bent on extracting his own style of vengeance. The action erupts when rival drug gangs clash in a series of double cross and the struggle for self preservation, as one of the main co-stars in the movie Bajan Entertainer "Fantom Dundeal" gets busy.
The young ‘Shane’, competently played by ‘Rashane Bend’ also comes to grip with his own spirituality as he affirms his belief in God and he finds reassurance in the fact that although he can’t change what has occurred he can learn from it and move forward.
The movie ends in a brilliant poetic moment, embraced by the breaking waves which wash the coast line of Sixmens Bay.
In between the action and violence, we witness the strong bond of family in this small community and the important part it played in eventually cleaning up the bad elements before they could take serious root and destroy the life of young Shane. With all of this behind him, he can now concentrate on his future, with the confidence of day break. (S.A.MILLER PRODUCTION)
